On the website I used to book the hotel, the impression was that this is an old country style hotel with brand new wings added which is quite a common feature of country house type hotels these days.
However, the reality of this hotel (which was confirmed to me by the duty manager) is that it is a conference centre which is selling spare capacity at the weekend, even the reception is in a brand new building (not the old house) and is more reminiscent of an office block.
It seems to work fine for large corporate functions and weddings but is definitely not a place for couples who want to spend quiet evenings in the hotel's bar and restaurant.
