Purdue announces lineup for 2004 Old Masters
Sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students, the Old Masters program is an annual tradition that gives students the opportunity to interact with men and women who have risen to the top of their career fields.
During their three-day stay on campus, the Old Masters, most of whom are Purdue alumni, will visit classrooms and residence halls and share informal meals where the masters will engage in open dialogue with students.
The Old Masters program started in 1950 with the idea of inviting Purdue leaders who embody the ideals of "honesty, personal integrity and a good philosophy." More than 500 men and women have visited the campus in that capacity in the 54 years since the program's inception.

For the uninitiated, most of the offerings at Old Master Paintings auctions are quite bewildering, but they are also fascinating for stripped of the glamor label they force the potential buyer to actually look at the lot on its artistic merits.
Old Master Painting auctions, therefore, are not only esoteric but exciting and this auction was not exception.

 Old Masters
Works by Master Bertram, Master Francke, Hans Holbein the Older, Jan Massys and the Master of female half-length figures, Dutch painters of church interiors, such as Saendram, Houckgeest or de Witte, works by Rembrandt, Ruisdael, Rubens or the Hamburg painters Georg Hinz or Balthasar Denner are permanently exhibited.
In the case of the Thomas-altarpiece by Master Francke, the gaps in the presentation immediately alert the viewer to the missing parts of the pictorial narrative.
The continuous change of the presentation in the rooms housing the Old Masters is the result of loans, which temporarily travel to national and international exhibitions and are replaced for the duration of their absence.
