Kingdoms of Eastern Europe - Bohemia
In the 9th and early 10th centuries, Bohemia was successively ruled by the Carolingian Franks, the Hungarians and the Holy Roman Empire.
Bohemia was later elevated to a kingdom, but the exact date in which that occurred is a little confused, although Vratislav is the first ruler referred to as "king".
Bohemia and Moravia are merged with Hungarian Slovak territory to form the republic of Czechoslovakia.

Boleslav (Boleslaus) III (died 1035/1036) was duke of Bohemia from 999 until 1002.
Boleslaus III was a weak ruler in whose chaotic reign, Bohemia became a pawn in the long war between the Holy Roman Emperor Henry II and Boleslaus the Brave, King of Poland.
In 1003 Boleslaus was restored to authority with either German or Polish assistance, however he immediately undermined his position by ordereing a massacre of leading nobles at Visehrad.

 Regents of Moravia
Moravia is the eastern part of the modern Czech Republic and its history is closely associated with Bohemia's (the western part of the Czech Republic).
Thereafter was Moravia a disputed region between Hungary, Bohemia and Poland until it definitely became a part of the Bohemian state 1029, though it received considerable autonomy and was ruled by Bohemian princes as a duchy.
One of these were Břetislav who became duke of Bohemia 1035 and later introduced the principle of seniority as the basis of the bohemian succession.

 The Royal Scribe
Among Bohemia’s other problems were: an unruly aristocracy, the wars with Poland and Hungary, power struggles among the Premyslid rulers, and increasing foreign influence.
Already king of Hungary when he succeeded his father as king of Bohemia and king of Poland in 1305, Wenceslaus III soon waived his right to the kingdom of Hungary, failed to successfully claim his right to the Polish throne, and was murdered before he could produce a male heir for Bohemia.
Thus was the end of the House of Premyslid in Bohemia and the beginning of a very involved history of foreign rule.

 Who was St. Procopius?
What is not conjecture is the fundamental reality that every age lies under the sovereignty of God, and that those who choose Christ are capable of great things.
Procopius seems to have been born into a Christian family in the newly-evangelized Bohemia of the late tenth century.
The two men entered into a long conversation, and so impressed was the Duke by Procopius' transparent sanctity that he decided to support the monk's lofty desires.
