CESANA, Italy - After Olga Pyleva won the silver medal in her first Olympic biathlon race this week, she cuddled a white "Cheburashka," a furry Russian cartoon animal that is the team's official mascot.
Pyleva was favored heading into Thursday's 7.5km sprint to win her second medal of the games.
As athletes were approaching the starting line, an announcer told the crowd that Pyleva was scratched because she had fallen ill, and the Russian team issued a statement lamenting that she was therefore ineligible for Saturday's 10km pursuit, where she was the reigning Olympic gold medalist.

The Russian delegation passed all needed documents to IBU Disciplinary Commission, regarding the legality of the drug used by Pyleva in Russia, and a letter to WADA, where the Russian delegation explains the situation and asks to impose a ban on this drug.
