Rumer Godden’s The Diddakoi (1984), for example, deals with the problems a diddakoi (i.e., a half-Romani, half-white) child encounters at school; Olga Sinclair’s Gypsy Girl (1981) is a semi-documentary novel about the day-to-day life of a Romani girl in England.
Non-fictional books dealing with the same topic, beautifully illustrated and in a format designed for young children, are Jose Patterson’s Traveller Child (1985) and Mary Waterson’s Gypsy Family (1978).
