In April 1957, with his cousin Jacques Washer as a passenger in the ENB 250 GT, Olivier scored a brilliant victory in the Tour of Sicily and then was a stunning third overall in the last Mille Miglia.
In 1961 Gendebien was back with Ferrari for what was his last GP drive at Spa, when he was the fourth man on the team for the Belgian Grand Prix.
Gendebien also had victories in the Reims 12 Hour race in 1957 and 1958; Sebring for three years in succession - 1959, 1960, and 1961; the Nürburgring 1000km in 1962; the Targa Florio in 1958, 1961, and 1962.

Olivier Gendebien, born January 12, 1924 in Brussels, Belgium and died on October 2, 1998 in Les Baux de Provence, in the Bouches-du-Rhône département of France, was a war hero and race car driver.
Born into a wealthy family, an heir to the industrial holdings of the Solvay family, Olivier Gendebien studied engineering at university but when World War II erupted and the Nazis occupied Belgium, he joined the Belgian resistance movement.
Olivier Gendebien passed away in 1998 at his home in Les Baux de Provence in southern France.

The lady had a crush on Olivier Gendien and sent him a self-addressed postcard with the request for an autograph which Olivier fullfilled but returned the card in an envelope hence it has no postage stamp.
Olivier managed to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans not less than 4 times (1958, 1960, 1961 and 1962) and numerous other sports car races such as the Nurburgring 1000KM, the 12 Hours of Sebring, The Targa Florio, The Reims 12 Hours and The Tour de France Auto.

Olivier Gendebien, the Belgian gentleman race driver whose successes at the wheel of Ferrari sports cars were an integral part of the Ferrari legend in the "good old days" of the fifties and sixties, died at his home in Baux de Provence, France, on October 2, 1998 at the age of 74.
Gendebien was back full time with the Ferrari Sports Car team in 1961 and contributed to three of Ferrari's four victories in the five championship races.
In referring to Gendebien and his kind, his compatriot Paul Frere commented "the race of gentlemen racing drivers is almost extinct." One of the best of the breed left us when Olivier Gendebien passed away.
