		He was bought at the age of 7 by the British Commander David Kirke during his invasion of New France and sold to Olivier Le Tardiff, head clerk of the French Colony.
		The boy was educated in a school established by the Jesuit priest, Father Le Jeune.
		He was later baptised as Olivier Le Jeune, taking the first name of the French clerk and the surname of the Jesuit priest.

		Olivier Le Jeune was the first recorded slave purchased in New France.
		Olivier was a young boy (Le Jeune means the Young in French) from Madagascar, believed to have been less than ten years of age when he was brought to New France, in an area later known as Quebec, by British Commander David Kirke in 1628.
		The boy was educated in a school established by the Jesuit priest, Father Le Jeune and later baptised as Olivier Le Jeune, taking the first name of the French clerk and the surname of the Jesuit priest.

		At his baptism this negro had received the Christian name Olivier in honour of Olivier Letardif, the head clerk; at his burial we find him bearing the family name of the Jesuit Paul Le Jeune, who had catechized him.

		The first slave transported directly from Africa to Canada was a child brought to Quebec in 1628 by the English invader David Kirke, and sold to a local resident on Kirke's departure in 1629.
		The child was baptized in May 1633 as Olivier Le Jeune, and died in 1654 while still a young man. Between 1628 and the British Conquest in 1759, 1132 slaves of African origin were brought to New France.
		Governor Denonville sought permission to establish a trade in African slaves in 1688, but royal permission was denied and so there was never any direct importation from Africa.
