Ollantaytambo is an area like many areas involving Peruvian ruins in that it was first populated by ancient pre-Quechua people, eventually the Quechua, who at one point covered a large section of South America [larger than the expanse of the Roman empire], and is still populated by modern Peruvians today.
Also, here like many places we say, Ollantaytambo had a temple of the Moon, which had the same characteristic nooks as the other temples we saw.
Many of the mountains and rocks amongst the Peruvian ruins seemed to have been left in place or even built around because of their relevance, like the top of the Condor temple which resembles the bird, while the lower portion was carved out to serve the more functional aspect of a temple.
