At the end of the 1890s, the Feast of Saint Olav ("Olsok") was restored to the church calendar, and the 900th anniversary of Saint Olav's death in 1930 deepend our awareness of our common identity within the ancient Norse archbishopric.

The main celebration of Olsok takes place on 28 and 29 July.
The Olsok High Mass will as usual be held at 11 AM.
We have an open church and free admission on the Olsok Day from 12 PM to 4 PM.

Olsok means the wake of St. Olaf, in memory of king Olaf Haraldsson who brought Christianity to Norway and who fell at the battle of Stiklestad on July 29 1030.
The weather on St Olaf's Day was said to portend how it would be for the coming autumn.
Olsok has gained new importance more recently as a day when local history groups and clubs enact historical plays and hold services at places of special historical interest.

During the Olsok celebration, people would travel from distant places to Nidaros in order to atone for their sins, and also to exchange and sell goods.
The St. Olav Festival can offer a different and exciting historical fair with stalls offering handicrafts and other goods for sale, jugglers, plays, entertainment and a diversity of activities which traditionally took place around the Nidaros Cathedral during the Olsok celebration in medieval times.

The Olsok celebrations in Lom are a tradition dating back to the 1920s.
The event originally celebrated St Olav the Holy, who fell at the Battle of Stiklestad on 29 July 1030.
During the day, the Lom Village Museum will have an open house, with demonstrations of old handwork.

The death of King Olav Haraldsson on 29 July 1030 at Stiklestad became a turning point.
The day became an important holy day in the Middle Ages and was named "Olsok" or "Olavsvake" which means "be a'wake".
During that night the church celebrated the Olav's Mass.

August 10th, Chester, 10.45am-4.30pm, 1100th anniversary Olsok Part II: Lectures at the Grosvenor Museum, Chester, followed by a service, St. Olave's Church Chester, led by Norway's St.Olave pilgrimsprest Kjell Skartseterhagen (Nidaros Cathedral, Trondheim).
This day is still commemorated in Norway with the "Olsok" or St. Olave's Festival (see the events calendar above for July/August 2001 and 2002) and is preceded by a series of festivities and a Pilgrimage from Oslo to Trondheim.
Similar celebrations may have occured in Viking Age Wirral and Chester, and this tradition was revived in 2001 with battle re-enactments at Arrowe Park and a service at St. Olave's led by Pastor Oddgeir Bolstad (of the Scandinavian Church, Park Lane Liverpool).

Creation of an annual “Wirral Olsok” Pilgrimage Trail (first weekend in August). 
A shortened trail would also be made available.  Tours would be self or as conducted parties.  *Indicates for conducted tours only: advance notice has to be given to St. Bridget’s Church, the Water Board (Cross Hill Reservoir car park), Storeton Farm, Wirral Grammar School (or Brackenwood Golf Club), the Lancelyn Green family, and Tranmere FC.
Service will be led by a past or present St. Olavspilgrimsprest with the present pastor of the Revival Church
