The red-figure Oberlin cup is of a later class, with the eyes by the handles and the palmettes flanking the figures.
Oltos, Epiktetos, the Nikosthenes Painter, the Bowdoin-Eye Painter, and several others did cups of this class, but soon "the four palmettes are cut to two and tucked away under the handles, the ground once occupied by eyes and palmettes is left free for figures" (

Many of the vases in Getty 8 would be the showpiece of a lesser collection.
Psiax, Oltos, Epiktetos, Euphronios, Onesimos, the Brygos Painter, Douris, Makron, the Antiphon Painter, the Foundry Painter: the artisans represented here comprise a veritable Who's Who of the late Archaic kylix.
Not all the pieces have been published before, and the fascicule is full of pleasant surprises.

 The Betterman Frequently Asked Questions
Oltos (Ortus) – An exceptional and unique transformation, Oltos is the most powerful fighting form for Lamia, if not all the Bettermans.
Oltos’ seed is created by combining three Seeds of Forte, and it is the only form capable of defeating Kankel.
Most importantly, it is capable of complete regeneration of its body or "Pyscho-Birth", restoring any damage it might have suffered, and is the only other creature able to do so besides Kankel.

Pamphaios (Getty Museum)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
As with the signatures of Nikosthenes, it appears that the name of Pamphaios, spelled in varying ways by different painters, was a kind of trademark on the products of the workshop, rather than the artist's actual signature.
Many of the painters in Nikosthenes' workshop, like the Nikosthenes Painter, Oltos and Epiktetos, stayed on after Pamphaios took over; and the workshop's production of red-figure pottery was expanded.
Pamphaios also seems to have continued the workshop's innovation and interest in the Etruscan export market.
