 | | The 'Olympian Deities' is the name traditionally given to the main gods and goddesses worshipped in Greece, from at least Homeric times but possibly going back as far as the Minoan and Mycenaean eras in some form, when they were probably worshipped as inanimate objects (Harrison, 1905, 16). |
 | | Originally there were twelve 'Olympian Deities' (Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite, Hermes, Athene, Hephaestos, and Hestia), and each one was assigned to a sign of the Zodiac and a month of the year (Guthrie, 1962, 111), "..they doubtless represented between them.. |
