SSN 751 and later are described as "Arctic-capable" and are referred to as the "688I" (for "Improved") class.
SSN 758 was used in trials with the Northrop Grumman Sea Ferret reconnaissance drone during 12-96; eventually, Sea Ferret may be launched from within a Sub-Harpoon missile canister and controlled by a submerged submarine.
SSN 758 is also fitted with a developmental Advanced Mine Detection System (AMDS) HF active sonar array with transmitters and receivers in the sail and in a disc-shaped chin sonar dome beneath the hull at the bow.

USS OMAHA was the fifth LOS ANGELES-class attack submarine.
Decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on October 5, 1995, the submarine is now berthed at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Wash., awaiting scrapping.
