: RevolutionSF - Comics of 1986 #43: Omaha the Cat Dancer : Feature
Omaha was primarily designed around the sexual adventures of a female character, but Reed Waller had decided to draw her and the rest of the cast with cat heads, fur, and a tail, in an effort to further enhance each character's uniqueness as people.
Omaha's real name was Susan Jensen (very few of the other characters knew that) and she had become an exotic dancer after being sexually harassed in previous secretarial jobs.
Omaha truly enjoyed her life as a stripper, and she was often the ray of hope to many of the characters, and to the reader as well.

Omaha came to a sudden end when the partnership of Waller/Worley fell apart (Waller is a `Nam vet and admits that this has caused him problems) and it had taken a long time for them to even get on speaking terms.
Omaha the Cat Dancer is written by Kate Worley and illustrated by Reed Waller, published by Kitchen Sink and Fantagraphics.

Omaha the Cat Dancer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Omaha the Cat Dancer is a highly acclaimed and controversial furry comic book created and drawn by Reed Waller and predominantly written by Kate Worley.
This comic was one of the first major furry series to introduce a furry subgenre called "slice of life", in which the furry nature of the characters is mostly a cosmetic artistic style for realistic stories anchored in contemporary human society.
It features the adventures of Omaha (her real name is Susan Jensen, but very few of the other characters know it), an anthropomorphic feline exotic dancer, and her lover, Charles "Chuck" Tabey, who turns out to be the heir to Charles Tabey, Sr., a powerful but mentally ill millionaire.

The creative team has since broken up and Omaha is no longer an ongoing series, but the importance of this groundbreaking series cannot be dismissed.
While an highly erotic theme was central to the plot revolving around an anthropomorphic feline stripper, Omaha was also a highly literate, emotionally charged and entertaining series that is sorely missed.

Lately, the good news that she was writing new episodes (to be drawn by Omaha's superb artist, Reed Waller) was ruined by the word that Kate had cancer, that it had gotten progressively worse, and that she and husband James Vance had severe financial problems on top of that little concern.
I did not know Kate well except through her work, which was amazingly filled with humanity, humor and intra-personal understanding.
Omaha was a cat who worked as a stripper, displaying a fine homo sapien form, and I always suspected that some who bought the early issues for the nekkid-type pictures were surprised by (and snagged into returning by) a very beguiling, insightful storyline.
