Partner, graduated from the Al Azhar University in Egypt with an LLB in 1979, he received his Masters in Law from the University of Cairo, Egypt in 1981 and a Doctorate in General Law from the University of Sorbonne, France in 1991.
From June 2, 2001 Dr Al Busaidey was made a Judge and the Deputy President of the newly established High Court of Oman from which position he retired on March 26, 2002.
Al Busaidey has represented the Government of Oman at various international forums, and participated in the negotiation of bilateral and multilateral treaties for and on behalf of the Government of the Sultanate of Oman.

al-Zujjaji says: "Oman was named after Oman bin Ibrahim al-Khalil", while Ibn al-Kalbi says: "It was named after Oman bin Siba' bin Yaghthan bin Ibrahim, God's Khalil (or close friend), because he was the person who built the city of Oman".
Another explanation is that the Azd (a tribe migrating from Yemen to Oman in pre-Islamic times) called Oman "Omana" because they came from a valley at Ma'rib in Yemen which went by the name of Oman, and they likened it to this place.
Some historians identify this Omana of Ptolemy as the city of Sohar (on the Batina coast of Oman), which was the pre-eminent trading centre of Arabia in the classical age of Islam.

Amnesty International has repeatedly called for all death sentences to be commuted and for legislation providing for the death penalty to be reviewed with the aim of abolishing this punishment.
Executions resumed on 30 January 1993 when a 28-year-old man identified as J.M.A. was hanged after having been convicted of the 1991 murder of a 16-year-old boy.
This execution was followed on 20 February by that of Muhammad Ibrahim Muhammad, aged 29, who was convicted of the murder of a 90-year-old woman in February 1992.
