The research we describe was part of the ASHA Omnibus Survey, a data gathering effort conducted annually by ASHA since 1982 with the exception of 1987, 1996, and 1998.
One thousand of the 2,759 individuals who were nonrespondents for the 1997 Omnibus Survey were randomly selected to answer an anonymous, one-mailing postcard survey that asked about their recent participation in surveys and what would motivate them to respond to future ASHA surveys.
While survey researchers recognize the importance of allocation of resources to research, we may be somewhat biased in our vision, and it may not be shared universally among the members whose dues fund our departments.

The survey of 500 seniors conducted by Roper Public Affairs found that 70 percent of respondents trust doctors and pharmacists to make these decisions; while only 19 percent trust Medicare government officials and only 14 percent trust insurance company representatives to determine which medications are covered under the new Medicare plan.
Eighty–five percent of those surveyed by Roper said that, if they are denied coverage for a medicine their doctor prescribes, they want written information on their right to appeal provided at the time coverage is denied.
