  OMNIMOVER : Encyclopedia Entry
Aside from the rails the vehicle rides on, the Omnimover system has two control rails that are connected to the vehicle via arms attached to a wheel that follows one of the control rails.
The Omnimover system was created by Roger E. Broggie and Bert Brundage to provide a ride system capable of giving passengers a motion picture type experience in which the attraction designers control the line of sight of the riders.
This concept also allows the designers to be able to place infrastructure elements of the attraction, such as lighting and projectors, behind the vehicles without concern for having the illusions of the attraction revealed to the riders.

World of Motion (1982-1996) was an omnimover attraction designed to educate guests about the history of the automobile.
The Omnimover rounded the same portico you saw in the queue and entered the show area.
Your Omnimover passes by various airplanes, bicycles, and cars before going through three Superspeed Tunnels previously used in the Magic Kingdom attraction If You Had Wings and the Disneyland attraction PeopleMover.

The basic configuration of the Omnimover was a welded two-pipe rail track with U-shaped ties which allow a drive fin to pass thru squeezer drive units.
Mounted to the track are two variable-position cam pipe rails which position the body containing the guest seats using a series of gears and linkages.
I was always concerned that the Omnimover system was a monster in that it had more wheels, links, bearings, and mechanical doo-dads per linear foot than anything I saw before.

The Omnimover is a system used for Disney theme park attractions.
Omnimover attractions have many vehicles, all in continuous motion, and are boarded by a large conveyor belt which travels next to the vehicles in the station.
The vehicles can rotate and keep guests from looking at spots revealing behind the scenes things such as projectors or lights and also focus on certain scenes.

OAFE - Haunted Mansion die-cast vehicles review
The Doombuggie is actually a cute name for the ride vehicle that is part of the Omnimover system first used for the long-dead Adventure Through Inner Space (in which the vehicles were called "Atomobiles").
The Omnimover system is essentially a circular track that holds, at the Disneyland Mansion, over 200 individual Doombuggies, which are connected to the track by a singular, centered shaft.
Plus, the Omnimover track is constantly moving (except for when "playful spirits" interfere or handicapped visitors need to embark or disembark) making its ride capacity not only fairly consistent but also quite high.

Are omnimover dark rides dead? - MouseInfo.com Discussion Boards
It's sad, because these are the classic rides the parks were founded upon, but I wonder if Disney will ever build another E-ticket ride that doesn't have either a major thrill element, or a tie-in to a popular movie.
Omnimovers aren't dead, they just use them less than they used to.
It is also an interactive experience, whereas all the classic rides were mostly passive, and relied on theming to provide the entertainment.

The omnimovers include a steel bar which is attached to the front of the carriage.
The Omnimover system was created by WED (with Bob Gurr handling a large part of the design), but manufactured by Arrow Dynamic.

Perhaps the most notable before EPCOT Center was their invention of the Omnimover, which debuted in Disneyland's Adventure Thru Inner Space.
Continuous-loop ride systems had existed before (such as in the '64/'65 World's Fair), but the Omnimover was a substantial evolution, both in terms of technology and its usefulness in conveying a story.
The Omnimover's ability to rotate and even tilt the ride vehicles meant that attractions could be laid out like movies.

This reminds me a little of Horizons, another Omnimover ride that was boarded in the middle of the ride vehicle.
In some cases, designers built two slightly different loops so that viewers wouldn't have to hear the same thing twice, but it has the downside that folks like my friend would strain to hear everything, and thus always be craning his neck backward, and worse, miss the start of the next show set.
That would have a negative impact on the hourly capacity of the ride (all Omnimovers have formidable throughput), but it might be worth it to reduce confusion.

Adventure Thru Inner Space at AllExperts
Adventure Thru Inner Space, presented by Monsanto, was an attraction in Disneyland's Tomorrowland, using Disney's Omnimover.
Adventure Thru Inner Space opened on August 5,1967 as part of the New Tomorrowland, and closed in 1985 to make way for Disney and George Lucas's new Star Tours attraction, which opened in early 1987.
The attraction was narrated by Paul Frees, who also lent his voice to the Haunted Mansion attraction, another Omnimover attraction which is still open to this day.

Reverse Imagineering - OmniMover - Keeping Track of Technology - Disney World Trivia -
The true 'OmniMover' - a combination of “Omnirange” and “PeopleMover” - was invented by Roger Broggie and Burt Brundage in 1968, and the precise details can be found in US Patent No. 3554130 - however, the language may be a little difficult to understand, to put it mildly.
However, one of the main problems with this system was an inability to stop the motion of the vehicles, without evacuating the ride, as once the inertia was lost, rear-ending incidents had a greater chance of occurring.
In such cases (Haunted Mansion is one), the automated lap bar or door is used, controlled by a gear system under the vehicle floor, and held in place by a latch and spring system, which is then released on unload by a protrusion in the unload area floor.

A bit different than most of the other future world pavilions, for although it does have an introductory film, and did have a short omnimover type transport vehicle, the main draw of the pavilion are the aquarium areas which allow visitors to view the creatures, displays, and activities available in whatever order the guests desire.

Adventure Thru Inner Space - History -
Adventure Thru Inner Space is a landmark Disney attraction because it was the very first use of the Omnimover ride system, now widespread in the parks.
Omnimover systems consist of an endless chain of small vehicles, each with a thin blade extending from the bottom.
Omnimovers have the ability to rotate, and this is used to focus guests' attention on the scenes of interest (and distract them from the boring parts).

Located on the eastern side of the "Future World" section of Epcot, the attraction used Disney's Omnimover conveyance system, which took guests past show scenes depicting visions of the future.
The only Disney attraction with multiple endings, Horizons then allowed riders to select which path they wanted to take back to the FuturePort: from the space station Brava Centauri (depicting space colonization), from the desert farm of Mesa Verde (depicting arid-zone agriculture), or from the Sea Castle research base (depicting ocean colonization).
As the final part of the ride guests in their 'omnimover' would push a button to select amongst the three choices, and would be presented with a 31 second video sequence.

The official omnimover patent that Roger Broggie filed in 1968 states that the "seats swivel to face the display".
Journey into Imagination (Original or current) was never an Omnimover as it was not a continuous chain, but rather a four car train, that the cars rotated to face the preshow then back again.
Since the rider controls the rotation it fails on both counts as a true Omnimover now as any unfolding story view is at the riders control, not the script.

A variation of Disney's Omnimover system was used; the Omnimover consists of a continuous train of cars moving constantly, although slowly.
Spaceship Earth's time machine vehicles moved at a rate of two feet per second, giving guests time to view the different scenes but also making it easy for other guests to board the moving vehicles.
Although it doesn't move very quickly, the Omnimover has one of the highest hourly capacities of any of Disney's ride systems because people are constantly loading and unloading.
