The League of Gentlemen are a troupe of English comedy performers; it is also the name of their stage, radio and television series.
The three actors in the League (Gatiss, Pemberton and Shearsmith) also toured the UK from October to mid-December 2005 with a pantomime-themed show "The League of Gentlemen Are Behind You".
The League of Gentlemen is primarily a sitcom, albeit an unusual one.

The second series of The League of Gentlemen aired in January 2000,On the 30th october the League of gentlemen kicked of the first leg of their tour.
The League of Gentlemen are set to appear on comic relief night between 22.35-23.45 March 16th and Exclusive on channel 5 on the 25th March.

What is noticable about the radio series is the amazing energy & inventiveness on display - although some of sketches are more rushed & shorter than how they finally ended up in the TV series.
The radio series was recorded in front of a studio audience & clearly illustrates the League's brilliance as live performers.
The radio series is more whimsical than the TV series (probably due to the fact that the series was broadcast in a 6.30PM slot) but considering the restrictions that this must have put on the material, it is still startling dark (definitely not typical Radio 4 6.30PM comedy fare!)

On the Town With the League of Gentlemen is an odd series in that it is clearly fresh and original, while still fitting perfectly within BBC Radio 4's format for a 30-minute comedy show.
The radio series starts this in its very first moments, with its foul-mouthed nun stealing a man's train ticket and an unpleasant radio agony aunt heaping withering scorn on the people making requests.
The TV series might have been able to swear a bit more, and indulge the boys' taste for parading around in female flesh-suits, but it really was on the radio that this series first started flexing its muscles.

One thing about the entire series is that you'd have to watch the seasons progressively to fully appreciate all the jokes, because they often pick up from where they left off, and also dig up older references from seasons past to construct their discourse.
While season one was mostly a sketch show, with little intertwining of characters, season three was more complex in that they centered on fewer characters and went deeper into the plots; cleverest was their tying in all six episodes in the final season to one, giant bang (and I mean bang) of an ending.
I was, however, fascinated by the talk of a rashomon style affair to it all, with the same incident being the focus of the series.
