On to Ottawa Trek   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
On June 3, over 1000 strikers began the "On to Ottawa Trek," determined to inform the nation of their cause and to lay complaints before Parliament and Prime Minister R.B. The strikers commandeered freight trains and made stops in Calgary, Medicine Hat, Swift Current and Moose Jaw before arriving in Regina.
Negotiations with the federal government resulted in the dispatch of 8 Trekkers to Ottawa to meet with Bennett, while the 2000 remaining marchers waited in the Regina Exhibition Grounds, food and shelter being supplied by townspeople and the Saskatchewan government.
The repression of the Trek and Bennett's antagonism towards Evans contributed to the PM's political decline.
