In the town the population is spread out with 30.0% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 5.6% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the town is $54,075, and the median income for a family is $57,268.

Onalaska, Wisconsin was founded by Thomas G. Rowe from New York in 1851.
In 1904 William Carlisle, a resident of Onalaska, Wisconsin, came to Texas and built a sawmill.
The town had two hotels, a movie theater, a large park, a hospital, a large downtown which included many stores, a cold storage plant, its own electrical plant, a bank, a railroad depot, and a large general store where you could purchase almost anything.

Onalaska's roots as a lumber mill town are featured at the museum located in the award-winning Onalaska Public Library (741 Oak Ave.
Rowe platted the village in 1851 and called it Onalaska, an Aleut word meaning "dwelling together harmoniously." A copy of the original plat is displayed in the museum, showing a much smaller Onalaska, a sharp contrast to the booming community Onalaska is today.

Onalaska was founded in 1851 in the era when America was expanding westward at a furious pace, with many young men in the eastern states traveling west to make their fortunes.
In 1851, north-central Wisconsin was covered by virgin white pine forests, drained by the Black River flowing southwest to join the Mississippi.
He decided to establish a town, entered the site at the Wisconsin state land office in Mineral Point, and hired a surveyor to lay out the town.
