Once Upon A Time In America
In our once great America, virginity and chastity were popular virtues, and one could live to old age and never be exposed to the abominations of homosexuality and adultery.
There was a time in this great country when, except for a few certain morally corrupt large cities, the most egregious gamblers hung out in bingo parlors, and anyone who even whispered his or her support for state-sponsored gambling would be run out of town on a rail.
There was also a time in the once noble America when physicians actually made personal visits to the homes of their patients.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA - TWO-DISC SPECIAL EDITION DVD
Such is the level of cinematic sophistication in Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America that all of the miserable things that happen in the picture make you giddy, filling you with the joy that is basking in an artist's command of a medium.
Yet there is some incontrovertible fidelity in the film's machismo to the pre-feminism America it portrays, and it's intriguing, to say the least, that the 1968 sequences consist of several pathetic geezers and one still-luminous Deborah: she seems to have been blessed with the gift of immortality in reimbursement for the evil that men do.

An ex-girlfriend once told me that she loved Gone With the Wind so much that she even cried at the scenery.
Once Upon a Time in America is conceived, edited, written, researched, and filmed brilliantly - an achievement far superior to anything in Antonioni's catalogue, for example, and it is actually the work of a coherent mind as well, placing him far above Antonioni when it comes to a sense of narrative.
Not was it cut by more than 50%, but they changed the time line into a linear progression, thus destroying all possible meaning, and didn't even bother with the Ennio Morricone score, which would have been a sure Oscar nominee.

"Once Upon A Time In America" is director, Sergio Leone's stunning tale of organized crime and the destruction it unleashes into the lives of four life-long friends.
Once the film finally enters a flashback to its beginning, it gains momentum and definition, entering a coming-of-age gangster story not dissimilar to Vito's plotline in the second "Godfather".
"Once Upon a Time", however, does not show the same restraint that was evident in the "Godfather" series: sex and violence are plentiful and brutal, and provide a sharp contrast to the otherwise elegiac tone.

Once Upon A Time In America
Leone's last film, the story of Jewish gangsters in Prohibition-era New York, is long, chaotic and confusing, but is nevertheless held together by the strong performances of De Niro and Woods.
It suffers from the tempting comparison with the Godfather films, and the absence of the mythic grasp Leone displayed so masterfully in his westerns underlines its failure to work as a Proustian parable of time and loss.

By 1875, with America pushing hard Westward, its thriving ports with shipping from all over the world, the opening up of the vast expanses of the prairies to wheat growing, the thousands of granaries, wheat silos, mills, barns and goods warehouses springing up everywhere, effective rodent control became a national priority.
This time, from about 1900 to the 1930’s was, without doubt, the heyday of the working ferret in the USA and has been very documented indeed, as we shall see.
In those times, before the advent of drugs such as antibiotics and steroids, most breeders and keepers had their own ideas on treatments, if, that is, the problem was considered worth treating at all.

It is high time that American critics and fans alike start to debunk their unquestioned, sloppy veneration of films like Sergio Leone's 'Once Upon a Time in America'.
Even at this full running time, figures appear and disappear with alarming suddenness: the Deborah character is fleetingly established in child form, a cold and unattainable 'trophy' female, not even hinting at the gravity with which she will re-establish her relationship with a post-prison Noodles, the said re-union henceforth rings completely false.

When the moulds arrive at the first cylinder, the felt web takes off the paper and conveys it to the press cylinders and afterwards to any fit place of reception, so that continuing the process, paper of any length may be made and with separate moulds.

Although Once Upon A Time In America is a worth inclusion on the gangster movies better than The Godfather list, Goodfellas is simply the most amazing gangster movie ever made.

A small comparison could be made to "Time Regained." While the "confusion" there was generated by the fact that memory is misleading, many facts here are hidden, confusing or hard to understand because such is life.

For fans of Sergio Leone - this film marked the return of one of the great film directors of all time.
However, I put this film in the same category as Citizen Kane - you need to judge it on it's own strengths, not by what has come before or after.
The creation of four decades of New York, from the 1930's through the 1970's is flawlessly done - especially considering the non-linear story and how quickly it allows the view to leap into any given decade.
