Took over from them during evening whilst they took next feature.
Moved forward to assembly area SW of Ondefontaine.
Went thro' Villers Bocage absolutely razed to the ground - worse than anything I have ever seen.

Owen was killed in action during on the 2nd August 1944, during the Normandy campaign, when the 4th Dorset Regiment led the 130th Brigade in a breakout along the Caumont to Ondefontaine road.
It’s objective was the capture of the villages of Jurques, La Bigne and Ondefontaine.
At 0115 hours the Battalion moved off at a steady pace heading South-westwards.

 The 11th Hussars, (Prince Albert's Own), 1944
D Sqn remained with 1st Rifle Brigade and 5 DG all day in area of Y roads and were also held up by stonking at X roads 766548.
The only incident was that on the day before an unlucky mortar shell had landed in the sunken lane where 3Tp were with the Btn HQ of the Wiltshires — Tpr Pearson was killed and Tprs Symons and Philps were wounded.
At 1100 hours the Sqn was told to concentrate at ONDEFONTAINE and the patrols were withdrawn.

Two days later, 214th Brigade took up the advance towards the IBois de Buron, the Commanding Officer moving up all machine-gun companies to put down overhead fire at irregular intervals in support of the attack.
With the capture of Ondefontaine by 130th Brigade, and of La Cabosse, Les Maisons, and Le Mesnil Azouf by 214th Brigade, the three companies, which had been under battalion command for the operation, returned to their respective brigades.
During the night of 4th/Sth August, “A” Company had a new task, that of ferrying the infantry of 129th Brigade forward as it advanced through 214th Brigade to reach St. Jean-leBlanc.
