The Songs of One Froggy Evening
Back in 1955 one of the most beloved of all the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies films, One Froggy Evening, was released to the public.
The main character was a nameless singing frog.
There are many interesting stories to tell about the people and music which help make One Froggy Evening such a great film.

Michigan J Frog in the short One Froggy Evening.
Michigan J. Frog is an animated cartoon character who debuted in the Looney Tunes cartoon One Froggy Evening (December 31, 1955), written by Michael Maltese and directed by Chuck Jones.
Near the end of the 1988 movie Spaceballs, there is a scene which parodies both One Froggy Evening and the movie Alien.

Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Michigan J. Frog
The Frog was not a star when Warner Bros.' One Froggy Evening (which was written by Michael Maltese and directed by Chuck Jones) premiered on December 31, 1955.
Even his name was given to him only in retrospect — in the cartoon itself, neither he nor his tormented victim had names.
His last name is from his body type, his first from "The Michigan Rag" (the one song that Maltese wrote especially for him), and his middle from the fact that unless evidence exists to the contrary, all cartoon characters are considered to have J. for a middle initial.

Even in “Duck Amuck,” in which both the film and Daffy’s own form are constantly altered by the vengeful, Godlike hand of the animator, Daffy remains “in character,” as real to us as people in our own lives.
Strangely, “One Froggy Evening” is absent, and Bob Clampett and Tex Avery are under-represented.
But the only entry I actually object to is the inclusion of “Dough For the Do-Do,” an inferior color remake of Clampett’s fl and white “Porky In Wackyland,”which is here at the expense of the original.

As with Volume One, I won’t even try to begin to highlight each and every cartoon on the four discs that make up the new collection — the sheer anticipation and fan-hunger surrounding this release means that you already know if you want it (you do) and what the shorts packed in are.
Finally, Disc Four offers even more of the same, but with bells and whistles on: a grouping of not only great cartoons, but among the absolute cream of the crop of the best Looney Tunes ever exposed to film.
There are none of the zip and spark in the characters, but the delivery, and certainly the look of the short is very memorable against the “real deal”, and even more impressive when one considers this is packed in with some of the best in that bunch.

Some of the cartoons are accompanied by commentary tracks, isolated music tracks, or even short documentaries, and while they vary in interest there’s some good stuff.
Chief among the new titles are “One Froggy Evening” and “What’s Opera, Doc?”, two of the best cartoons ever (regardless of the originating studio) and each of these masterpieces has an accompanying documentary that puts them into their historical (or should it be hysterical?) perspective.
One Froggy Evening is the cartoon about the singing frog who’ll only sing when there’s no one to hear him except for his human “master.” It’s a wonderful morality tale as well as being very funny.

The WB Television Network is a television network in the United States, founded by the Warner Bros. film studio and Tribune Company in January 1995.
The network is typically referred to as The WB or sometimes The Frog (referring to the network's mascot, the animated character Michigan J. Frog who was introduced in the 1955 animated short, One Froggy Evening).
Much like its contemporary UPN, the WB was a reaction to the success of the Fox Network and first-run syndicated programming during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

“One Froggy Evening,” for example, is the inspiration for the manner in which Alvey drives Tim berserk--an even worse misuse of the classic than making the frog the WB Network mascot.
Otis’ plots against Alvey, meanwhile, are basically Road Runner bits, though they’re so terrible that Wile E. Coyote has greater justification for bringing legal action against the filmmakers than he would against the Acme Corporation.
Kennedy plays Tim as though in a 95-minute television sketch, with the broadest of gestures and the leanest of comic results; Cumming continues his series of bewilderingly bad choices with a role even more dreadful than the one he had in “Spy Kids.” Howard comes on too strong--what a surprise.
