Welcome to the Office of Fire Prevention and Control
This is Fire Prevention Week in the United States, and while I fully support and agree with the concept of getting folks thinking about preventing and surviving fires, I believe we should, and need to be, doing so 52 weeks a year – and not just for one week a year.
In the ten year period of 1995 – 2005, while tornadoes killed 609, hurricanes killed 226, and earthquakes killed only 3, fire killed 43,900 people in the U.S. The good news is that almost all of the deaths and injuries from fire can be prevented by a few simple behaviors made habits, made a lifestyle.
Make this the year that we take fire for the serious threat it is. Determine that you will make right choices to prevent fire and survive should a fire occur.
