The eastern boundary of Tryon County was approximately five miles west of the present city of Schenectady, and the county included the western part of the Adirondack Mountains and the area west of the West Branch of the Delaware River.
Oneida County is in the central portion of New York State, east of Syracuse, and west of Albany.
Oneida Lake is on the northwestern corner of the county, and the Adirondack State Park is on the northeast.

Oneida County has taken steps to foreclose on land owned by the Oneida Indian Nation.
According to Oneida County Attorney Randal Caldwell, the Nation owns 284 parcels in Oneida County, 187 of which are eligible for foreclosure.
Caldwell said Oneida County held off foreclosure in the hopes that the property taxes would be paid.

The state code, however, doesnt cover other things like equipment, sprinkler pipe, fencing supplies, etc. The county tried to cover these things in a nuisance ordinance it passed a few years ago, the sheriff said, but that ordinance had to be revoked.
A question was raised as to who is liable if a person runs into something in the county barrow pit that is not supposed to be there.
