Oneiroi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Greek mythology, the Oneiroi were the sons of Hypnos, the god of sleep.
They were personifications of dreams—fl-winged daemons—and they were said to live on the shores of the Ocean in the far West, in a cavern near the border of Hades.
The most powerful of the Oneiroi was Morpheus, and his brothers were Icelus (aka Phobetor) and Phantasos.

 Greece - International Dreamwork
Between the two only oneiroi hold any significance as they can be utilized to envisage the future, while enhypnia are indicative merely of a present state of affairs.
Oneiroi include visions and oracular dreams and can be further distinguished into Theorematikoi, that predict the future directly and Allegorikoi, which predict allusively and require interpretation.
Thus Artemidorus is principally concerned about this last categorization of dreams and bases the bulk of his work fundamentally in the discussion about their meaning and interpretation.

Oneiroi are further distinguished as theorematic or allegorical.
Theorematic dreams are obvious and resemble the actual events that will occur and allegorical dreams "hint at something in the manner of a riddle." Artemidorus' definition of dreams clearly includes a divinatory aspect.

Artemidorus and the Oneirocritica - the First Dream Dictionary   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Artemidorus was not the first dream researcher or writer but drew upon a wide range of written and unwritten lore, many previous authors being cited.
Artemidorus considered dreams as falling into two distinct categories: those that reflected the dreamer's current situation (Enhypnia) and those that predicted the future (Oneiroi).
"People who live an upright, moral life do not have enhypnia or any other irrational fantasies, but rather oneiroi and generally ones that are directly predictive."
