Onkaparinga River National Park is in South Australia (Australia), 32 km south of Adelaide also incorporates the Onkaparinga River Recreation Park.
One section of the Onkaparinga Gorge is pretty much untouched by man and has the full range of native plants (grasses/spiny bushes/eucalyptus tree canopy) and the other is a previously cleared area undergoing reforestation.
Onkaparinga Gorge has some very steep terrain, following the car trail on foot leads to almost 45 degree inclines, but it has a nice creek at the bottom (see picture).

At the downstream end of the ten kilometre gorge, historic Noarlunga township is almost encircled by a horseshoe bend as the rivers emerges from the gorge, and later opens onto the floodplain lower section (a recreation park) and enters Gulf St Vincent at Port Noarlunga.
The Onkaparinga is still tidal back to the mouth of the gorge, but on our Postcards day with the river, it tasted only slightly brackish.
South Australia's longest river after the Murray, the Onkaparinga heads southward behind the Mt Lofty and finds a chink in the ranges to create a deep gorge between Clarendon and Old Noarlunga.

Removal of invasive weeds along 1 km of the Onkaparinga River National Park on the Sundews Track was completed in July 2002 at a cost of $10,000.
"The Onkaparinga River is the third largest estuary in the state and is home to 36 species of water fowl, but it's facing increased pressure because of pollution from housing developments and from the impact of introduced weeds, which obstruct the flow of the river," the Minister for the Southern Suburbs, John Hill said.

With the main 20 km front of the Mt Hall fire coming from the south all the houses in the north of the Blue Mountains National Park were at risk when the fire reached them.
The firefighting/backburning is quite different to what we are accustomed to in South Australia, we generally surround the fire and extinguish it, but in NSW because of the vast areas of inaccessible bush this is not possible, so backburning is required.
