Onside kick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An onside kick is a term used in American football and Canadian football for a play on a kickoff in which the ball is kicked a shorter distance than usual in order for the team that kicked it to regain possession of the ball.
An onside kick from a free kick is usually a desperation technique used for a kickoff by a team trailing in the score with little time left in the game, in order to gain another possession of the ball and to hopefully allow scoring again.
The older version of onside kick, still legal in Canadian football, was inherited from rugby as a way to make a forward pass before throwing the ball forward was legal.

Because an onsides kick has to travel at least 10 yards, as in NFL rules, the kick cannot be recovered by the kicking team.\par \par \cf1 Roll a Two\cf0 - The football was kicked 10 yards, the perfect amount of yards.
If you did not notice the pattern, you are kicking the football 5 yards for ever one digit rolled, 2 for 10 yards, 4 for 20 yards, etc. The rolled onsides kick attempt number also signifies how many numbers the opposing team can call to recover the football.
If the receiving team does any of these while trying to recover the onsides kick this means they bobbled the football and the kicking team recovers the football at the point to where the football was kicked to.

Quick kick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Typically this has been a kick from scrimmage from a formation that is, or resembles, one usually used other than for punting, or at least not resembling the one usually used for punting.
One type of such play is the equivalent of the Statue of Liberty play for the forward pass: the ostensible punter holds the ball out as if to drop it, then hands it to a teammate stepping behind or in front of him or her.
A quick kick is often executed by a technique called a "pooch punt", which is a more controlled kick.

Conditional on a three-and-out, a central case would be for the Patriots to return the kickoff to their own 27-yard line, gain 5 yards on their first three downs, and punt the ball a net 38 yards.
If the Eagles attempt an onside kick and are successful, they get the ball at about their own 42-yard line, and have nearly 1:48 left in the quarter and two timeouts.
Obviously one of the key inputs to the analysis is the probability of recovering a fully-anticipated onside kick.
