The Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) began in 1873 as an associate agricultural college of the University of Toronto.
Subsequently, the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) became one of three founding colleges of the University of Guelph in 1964.
The OAC opened on May 1, 1874 with an enrollment of 28 students.

Under the guidance of its managing authority, Guelph University, Alfred is in the process of becoming the first agricultural education centre in North America devoted to organic research.
"We want to establish the college as an important player in preparing tomorrow's specialists, be it in organic agriculture, environmental management or food safety," Heroux said.
Echoing Heroux, Goubau and Brunet said it's important for students to realize they'll still get traditional schooling in agriculture from the college since many of the management techniques used in both the organic and conventional streams overlap.

The Ontario Agricultural College was established as a division of the Ontario Department of Agriculture in 1874.
The President had authority over the academic courses but the Professor of Agriculture, with equal authority, was in charge of the farm and the student's practical education; the latter was considered far more necessary by the students, the minister, and by the farming community.
Reynolds left O.A.C. in 1915 to become the President of the Manitoba Agricultural College, returning as President of O.A.C. in 1920, an office he held with distinction until his retirement in 1928.

 The Entomological Society of Ontario
The Entomological Society of Ontario (ESO) was established in 1863 for “all students and lovers of entomology who shall express their desire to join it and conform to its regulations.
Two of the original three founders went on to shape entomology in Canada: C.J.S. Bethune, Head of the Entomology and Zoology Department at the Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph (1906); and William Saunders, Director of the Experimental Farms of the Dominion of Canada in Ottawa (1886).
From 1906 until today, the Society’s headquarters has been located at the Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph; the library and archives are currently housed in the College at the University of Guelph.
