The privatization of Ontario Hydro has been a project of Bill Farlinger ever since Mike Harris was elected, and Farlinger was chosen by Harris to help with the transition from the Bob Rae government at Queen's Park in 1995.
He was the driving force to privatizing the company, the first step of which was to split it into two companies in 1999 -- Ontario Power Generation, dealing with the generation of electrical power; and Hydro One, responsible for the physical infrastructure (the wires and towers that form the electrical grid).
Hydro One will pay the company $100 million a year for 10 years for the services it used to run in-house.
