When I talk about a transportation corridor in my area of southwestern Ontario, Highway 402 is very important, especially because we have an initiative in Sarnia-Lambton that we call the NAFTA superhighway whereby we would like to link the economic activities from Mexico, the USA and Canada into one great transportation link.
Therefore, the government of Ontario should urge the federal government to act on the concerns of the Ontario public in order to ensure our communities are properly protected and to ensure public safety is not compromised.

The history of Hwy 416 goes back to 1966, when the Eastern Ontario Highway Planning Study, undertaken by the Department of Highways, identified the eventual need for a freeway link between Ottawa and Hwy 401.

In November, 1999, the Official of the Provincial auditor was sharply critical of the government’s highway maintenance privatization program.
"The Ministry’s procedures were not adequate to ensure that the outsourcing initiative was managed with due regard for economy and efficiency nor to ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and contract terms and conditions," provincial auditor Erik Peters wrote.
