It is located at the junction of Highway 3, at Highway 24, due south of Brantford, Ontario, and accessible to Hamilton by nearby Ontario provincial highway 6.
It was named after the first Lieutenant governor of Upper Canada (Ontario), John Graves Simcoe; The community of Simcoe should not be confused with Simcoe County, located on the north shore of Lake Simcoe, of the many places he is named after in Ontario.
Growth in the town continues at a slow pace, although the addition of a new Toyota parts plant is expected to accelerate that.

The City of Guelph (IPA: gwelf) (2004 population 125,872, metropolitan population 155,635) is a city located in southwestern Ontario, Canada, roughly 100 kilometres west of downtown Toronto at the intersection of Ontario provincial highway 6 and Ontario provincial highway 7.
According to the mid-2001 census, the population estimates there were 117,344 people residing in Guelph, located in the province of Ontario, of whom 49.1 % were male and 50.9 % were female.
In mid-2001, 12.2 % of the resident population in Guelph were of retirement age (65 and over for males and females) compared with 13.2 % in Canada, therefore, the average age is 35.7 years of age comparing to 37.6 years of age for all of Canada.

The exact reason is not clear, but reportedly, Highway 1 was omitted from the 1925 route numbering system to eliminate conflicts between many of Ontario's larger towns, who all demanded to be on a highway bearing the route number "1".
If the Ministry does re-use an obsolete highway number, all efforts are made to place the new highway designation as far away as possible from the original designation, to avoid confusion amongst the motoring public.
Highway 17 is the longest, with a length of approximately 2,000 kilometers (1,242 miles).

My interest in highways has constantly been there, but it was not something that I talked about much for many years, because I assumed there was nobody else out there as interested as I am.
During the same year, the Historical Highways Society of Ontario (HHSO) was formed by some fellow Ontario roadgeeks, to preserve the history of what was once a large King's Highway network in the Province of Ontario.

The painted Provincial Highway signs were produced on thin sign blanks made out of tin, with crimped metal edges similar to the edges seen on 1923 and 1924-dated Ontario license plates.
The embossing on these early Provincial Highway signs was very similar to Ontario's license plates produced after 1921, suggesting that these early Provincial Highway signs may have in fact been produced by a company who normally manufactured the province's license plates.
Despite the large quantity of these triangular Ontario Provincial Highway signs manufactured (almost 5500 signs were installed on highways by the end of 1929), very few have survived to this day.

The Highway 7 proposal, coupled with the Highway 6 proposal and the Conestoga Parkway, would produce a four-lane limited-access highway running from Hamilton, through Guelph and Kitchener, to almost Stratford.
The designers of the highway have tried to address the environmental concerns by adjusting the alignment of the highway to skirt past the area, but this arrangement has not done enough to significantly reduce the threat the new highway poses.

Immediately after the war, the DHO re-started construction on the highways which sat dormant for six years, including the QEW and Hwy 400, as well as beginning the first actual construction on the new trans-provincial freeway that would become Hwy 401.
