Opel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Opel was acquired by General Motors in 1929 and continues as a subsidiary.
Opels appeared under their own name in the US in the late Sixties, when they were sold through Buick dealers as captive imports.
The Opel name largely disappeared from the UK in 1981 after Vauxhall and Opel dealerships were merged, with only the Manta and the Monza (the coupe version of the Senator) being sold as Opels, until they were discontinued in 1988 and 1987 respectively.

Have we met before?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
Yes, the development work between General Motors and Suzuki has produced the Opel Agila, which closely resembles our own Wagon R. The Agila happens to be the first microvan from an European manufacturer and has room inside for four adults, with luggage space extending from 250 litres to 1250 litres.
So GM could use Suzuki’s help to produce Opel Agila here and maybe, use the same engines with a few technological additions.
An Opel ‘flash’ on the grille will make the Agila a more prestigious Wagon R. That, of course, is in the realm of conjecture, but the likes of Suzuki Wagon R and Opel Agila look to be getting increasingly popular the world over.
