Opel Ascona - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Opel Manta coupé was launched on September 9, followed by the Opel Ascona on October 28 in two and four-door sedan forms, plus a three-door station wagon (called the Caravan).
The old Cavalier Coupé was phased out, though the Opel Manta was retained in the UK — the last car to be badged as an Opel in the UK before it was deleted in 1987.
Opel continued to use the Ascona nameplate until the Vectra was launched in 1989, although the Cavalier name was retained by Vauxhall until 1995.

However, I am finding that dealer maintenance is becoming difficult: when it went in for a service and MOT test at the beginning of 1999 it required some parts which had to be ordered, and the car languished at the dealer for days while they obtained the parts.
I eventually made the decision that the Manta was no longer reliable day-to-day transport and obtained a Nissan 200SX for this purpose, but decided that as I was attached to the Manta, I would keep it on and treat it as a modern classic.
I joined the Opel Manta Owners Club, and now use the Manta mainly for club outings, although it also comes in useful on the rare occasions when I have more than one passenger and the 2+2 configuration of the 200SX is inadequate.

Opel Manta 400 - Opel Manta History - MantaWorld
The Group B rally regulations required 400 versions of a car to be built in order for it to be homologated and Opel was no exception with the Manta 400.
The Manta 400 was a 2420cc (147.7cu) 16 valve 275HP (@7500RPM) rear-wheel drive contender at a time when development was getting a bit 'out of hand' - the 4x4s were emerging as viable rallying options and all the big players were putting money into some powerful machines.
It was the 1986 Tour de Corse rally where a Lancia S4 crashed with no witnesses and no survivors that prompted the plug to be pulled on Group B and the emerging Group S cars.

How many liters/100km is your Manta consuming? - Opel Community Forums
Manta Please post technical questions in the appropriate Technical Forum, unless it is very specific to the Manta.
Lets see, 13 litres per 100 km of fuel consumption is approximately 3.25 US Gallons in 62 miles, so that would be 19 mpg (for the U.S.A. members), while 8 l/100 km would be 31 mpg.
Based on what I used to get in my GT (same drive-train, a bit lighter, better aero), that is approximately the range from city driving (about 20 mpg) to highway (35 mpg).
