  Open (poker)
In poker, the act of making the first non-zero bet in a betting round is called opening the round.
Some games may have special rules about opening a round that may not apply to other bets (for example, they may have a betting structure that specifies different allowable amounts for opening than for other bets, or they may require a player to hold certain cards to open).
The term is also used to describe a category of poker game in which some cards held by individual players are visible to all other players, either by being dealt face up or by being exposed during play (but before showdown).

 SeriousPoker.com - Dan's Poker Dictionary
In big bet poker, it is possible to reach a situation in which you are uncomfortable with the amount of money you have invested in a pot.
If someone opens for $5, and the next player raises $10, they're "making it $15." With the exception of all-in players, if a player wants to see the next round, eventually they have to match whatever "it" is. "It" can also mean the amount required to call.
open or raise is required to show their cards first, and anyone else can try to muck their cards if they decide they've lost.

Winning (or minimizing losses) at video poker requires not only that you play the game properly, but that you carefully choose the games and the places at which you play.
Secondly, video poker games are different because the "expectation" (or "payback") can be readily determined by looking at the game, if you know what to look for.
Over time, most video poker games can be expected to return 95-100 percent of the money played to the player (occasionally, you can even find games that return more than 100% with perfect play).
