Open Inventor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Open Inventor, originally IRIS Inventor, is a C++ object oriented "retained mode" 3D graphics API designed by SGI to provide a higher layer of programming for OpenGL.
Open Inventor (OI) was written to address this issue, and provide a common base layer to start working with.
Open Inventor was later opened for 3rd-party licensing, which is when it switched from "IRIS" to "Open".

 Open Inventor
Open Inventor is a powerful 3-D graphics library that allows the user to create interactive 3-D applications quickly and easily.
Inventor efficiently handles many of the graphic operations which would otherwise have to be coded by the user.
Inventor and Viewkit provide the software functionality of an SGI workstation, and with the recent advances in graphics hardware, Linux PCs will be closer tomorrow to where the SGI workstations are today.

open inventor - from virtalis   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Open Inventor is the de facto standard for development of cross-platform (IRIX, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Linux, and Windows) 3D graphics applications in C++ and Java.
Since Open Inventor was designed specifically to use OpenGL® for graphics rendering, it is highly optimized to take advantage of OpenGL accelerators.
Open Inventor is a very high-level API, reducing the programming time required of low-level APIs by over 10 times - and resulting in products that can be completed in much less time with much more sophisticated capabilities.

Extensible Authentication Protocol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
EAP-TLS is an IETF open standard, and is well-supported among wireless vendors.
The MD5 hash function is vulnerable to dictionary attacks, and as used in EAP does not support dynamic WEP.
PEAP is so successful in the market place that even Funk Software, the inventor and backer of EAP-TTLS, had no choice but to support PEAP in their server and client software for wireless networks.

SGI inventor Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Date: 30 Apr 1994 15:45:00 CDT IRIS Inventor was the first release of Inventor; it is also known as Inventor 1.0 (Open Inventor is Inventor 2.0).
The Inventor format is the standard for 3D objects on Silicon Graphics machines, and may become the standard for all machines.
Inventor programs that contain a lot of IRIS GL code or that made extensive use of Inventor subclassing will be more difficult to port, since they will have to be ported to OpenGL and since the internal structure of Inventor underwent some major changes.

Open Inventor - Release notes   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Open Inventor release 3.1 is source code compatible with previous releases.
The initial release of Open Inventor 3.1 is built with Visual C++ 6.0 (as was Open Inventor 3.0) to ensure compatibility with existing applications.
Previously Open Inventor assumed all 2- and 4-component texture images "might" contain transparency, so geometry using one of these images was always considered "transparent" and handled using delayed and/or sorted rendering if one of those modes was set.

Distributed Open Inventor: A Practical Approach to Distributed 3D Graphics
Distributed Open Inventor (DIV) is an extension to the popular Open Inventor (OIV) toolkit for interactive 3D graphics.
Unfortunately, Open Inventor as a commercial product is not available in source code, which ruled out this approach.
Instead, we resorted to a different approach which is equally feasible and works even if no source code is available: OIV has a built-in concept of notification that is used to propagate updates upwards in the scene graph hierarchy if a node is modified.
