NovaTech Valve and Seat Design History
Full open seats / wing guided valves have been available for years, however their performance as a general rule have never been on a par with web seats / stem guided valves.
As with all full open seats, the symmetrical load to the fluid end does prevent out of round seat tapers and washed out fluid ends; also suction seats can be removed without disturbing the discharge seat on valve over valve fluid ends.
Web seats tend to be significantly more out-of-round that full open seats because when heat treated the webs result in different shrinkage rates when the seats are quenched.

The open-seat races provided the most excitement in California, where the redrawing of district lines after the 2000 census made almost every seat safe for the party that holds it and difficult for a challenger to oust an incumbent of a different party.
In the race for the seat vacated by retiring Republican Rep. Doug Ose, the main candidates are Ose's older sister Mary, a businesswoman and political moderate; former state attorney general and Rep. Dan Lungren; and state Sen. Rico Oller, who's tried to position himself as the most conservative of the three.
While Democrats are in the minority in Washington, the race for the open seat in the Fresno-based 20th congressional district was no less intense than around Sacramento.

These new numbers highlight the growing dilemma faced by House Democrats that many of their open seats are in jeopardy of GOP takeover.
In fact, nonpartisan analyst Charlie Cook, in his most recent analysis, listed two Democrat open seats in the "Lean Republican" category, while no Republican open seat was listed in the "Lean Democrat" category.
Add these two seats to the 7-seat majority already held by House Republicans (with Rep. Jim Traficant’s public support of Hastert) and the Democrats are facing — in their best case scenario — a 9-seat hill to climb.

Elections for designated seats essentially protect two incumbents running in the same year from having to campaign against each other, he noted, and at times citizens might be reluctant to directly challenge an incumbent with whom they are acquainted.
Agnew said she prefers designated seats to open seats in part because so-called “bullet voting”—the practice of voters selecting only one candidate among several running for two or more open seats—carries a “huge risk” of skewing election results.
