  About the OU : History of the OU
Born in the 1960s, the 'White Heat of Technology' era, the Open University was founded on the belief that communications technology could bring high quality degree-level learning to people who had not had the opportunity to attend campus universities.
The university's expansion continued throughout the 1980s as more courses and subject areas were introduced; as the importance of career development grew, so the university began to offer professional training courses alongside its academic programmes.
Open University peak-time television programmes such as Rough Science, Renaissance Secrets, and Someone to Watch Over Me have been seen by millions of viewers and have won new critical acclaim for the University.

I believe that the development of open universities has been the most important revolution in education of the second half of the 20th century and I will try to identify the essence of their contribution to the development of individuals and contemporary societies.
First, when the UK Open University was created in 1969 its founder, Walter Perry, did not believe that higher education was necessarily the highest priority areas for applying new methods of teaching and learning.
Graduates from all universities were included in the sample and, not surprisingly, the results did not differ greatly from institution to institution, except in one case.

I have been so impressed by the performance of this unit that when he recently announced an OU microscope sale on the Microscopy UK web-site I went ahead and bought several more.They are sold in pairs and I have found that both can be refurbished.

IT training academy NIIT on Monday forged an alliance with UK's largest university, the Open University, to offer a degree programme in IT education to students across India, Bangladesh, Botswana, Ghana, Indonesia, Nigeria and Vietnam.
The NIIT programme would be evaluated by the Open University to ensure its equivalence to 240 points of UK study.
NIIT chief executive officer Vijay Thadani said this alliance would bring the Open University's rigorous curriculum to the students in their own country, thus making it a cost efficient way of acquiring an internationally accepted qualification.
