OpenGEM Release 4 Update 4 patches are available from http://gem.shaneland.co.uk/updates.html, and you can download the full versions of the OpenGEM software from http://gem.shaneland.co.uk/fullversions.html Update 4 adds new functionality to the desktop (FILE > SHOW CONTENTS from Viewmax), and corrects a minor bug with selecting desktop preferences.
OpenGEM Deutsch RC1 has also generated zero bug reports so far.
If no errors are reported in the next few days, OpenGEM Deutsch will be available as a final release version for FreeDOS on Friday.

Shane Land OpenGEM is the main GUI, and is a complete FreeGEM distribution with applications.
Shane Land OpenGEM Release 3 and Shane Land GEMini Release 2 will both be GPL, and the license restriction with the Shane Land Limited License will be removed.
In essence I feel I am passing the code and concept onto someone else who can take it further than me. When I started to build OpenGEM in 2001 I wanted to make a GEM distribution that was easy to install, included all the applications preconfigured, and was tested.

OpenGEM 1.0.0 and above (available for free download from http://gem.shaneland.co.uk) works with FreeDOS kernel2027/FreeCOM 0.83beta50 without a crash.
Previously OpenGEM would crash on FreeDOS (Beta 6 and 7).
This means that FreeDOS now has a full GEM GUI desktop available for immediate use.

It is also great news for me, as it means that the OpenGEM distro has not only proven useful for people who want a GUI, but also served to bring GEM back to professional development.

The idea would be to improve the ease of use and setting up OpenGEM, and to release the manual in HTML and PDF formats (maybe RTF as well).
The creation of this manual would not mean the end of the GEM FAQ.

Shane announces the new release 2.1.0 of his OpenGEM distro: OpenGEM is an open and free GUI (graphical user interface) built around a free implementation of GEM and comes with lots of applications including office and multimedia.
