OpenSUSE developers shouldn’t join the ubuntu camp, because all of us wants suse linux to be the most innovative distro..
After all the OpenSUSE project is not Novell…; And the right thing to do isn’t to fork it or go to work on Ubuntu, but to ‘fight’ to protect the free software philosophy or whatever the people want to defend.
Whether that may be openSUSE, Ubuntu or heaven forbid Windows, we still have that choice and for somebody like you to use things that you do not agree with to entice people to your side is not on.

  LWN: The launch of openSUSE
OpenSUSE will play a role similar to Red Hat's Fedora; it is a free distribution, developed with community input, which will help to drive the development of SUSE's high-end commercial offerings.
The announcement of openSUSE included a beta release for openSUSE 10.0, which is a step in the right direction (see our review on this week's Distributions Page).
If the openSUSE project is to be successful, it must find a way to attract developers and users, and to keep them happy.

This means that there is no /etc/init.d/pcmcia to run to pick up my wireless card on boot, which means that I have to eject it and re-insert it into my laptop to have it kick in.

Breaking News--Novell to Set SUSE Linux 10.0 Loose in October
The new bleeding edge Linux from Novell is, of course, openSUSE, which is the open development version of what used to be called SUSE Linux Professional and what is now called just SUSE Linux when it goes into production.
The openSUSE release is really beta code, while SUSE Linux 10.0 is a frozen snapshot of the beta code that has been tweaked and prepared for commercial release.
Prior to the establishment of the openSUSE project by Novell in the middle of August, outside beta testers and commercial customers could give Novell some ideas about what features they might want or feedback on bugs, but they could not actually participate in the development process.

I have for several years kept all of my personal stuff on a different partition, so it’s dead simple to install a different distro–just reinstall the root filesystem, have it bring my existing home partition into the new setup and Bob’s your Uncle.

I had to change it to use Xshm instead and it seems to be working okay with that.
