The sources emphasized that the operation in Ramallah did not deviate from IDF regulations or the government policy handed down to the IDF from the political echelon.
Forces elsewhere in the defense establishment confirmed that the IDF had been operating within the confines of government regulations, but, nonetheless, perhaps should have reconsidered the operation, in light of Olmert and Mubarak's meeting.
Within the IDF, there were also those who accepted the government's criticism of the operation, implying that there is an attempt to tie the IDF to political rivalries of which it is not meant to take part.

Media Disinformation: One of Hellenism's Greatest Challenges Into The 21st Century   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
The Greek-backed coup which served as the pretext for Turkey's invasion was a bid for control of Cyprus' government and not a campaign to attack Cyprus' Turkish minority -- the Turkish Cypriot community was neither harmed nor targeted during the failed coup.
"Operation Attila", as Turkey's military called its invasion, had little to do with the protection of Cypriot Turks-its objective was the ethnic cleansing of 200,000 of the island's native population through the use of killings, rapes and mass executions to wrest control of Cyprus' northern territory.
Pretexts for the invasion invoking the defense of Cyprus' Turks did not become creditable until years later, after memories had faded and after history was gradually rewritten to accommodate the West's current policy of appeasement towards Turkey.
