In 2005 the operational British Commando force consists of 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines which includes 40, 42 and 45 Commando Royal Marines, 29 Commando Royal Artillery and 59 Independent Commando Squadron Royal Engineers (the latter two both Army Commandos), a logistic regiment, a naval squadron of medium helicopters, and a landing craft squadron.

The software used for testing was 32-bit; it's a prototype; the chip may have been locked at 800MHz, so a direct comparison should only be made with an 800MHz Athlon etcetera.
But the rig is stable, the ClawHammer performs up to 40 per cent faster than an Athlon running at the same clock rate.

I had originaly loaded an older version of CPU-Z and it showed as a Clawhammer, the newer version reports it as a NewCastle.
A64's (clawhammers included) usually don't scale terribly well on voltage anyway.

Anything that uses 'doubles' in C is going to be 2-4 times faster for that specific operation.
They are able to handle *virtual* memory spaces larger than that, as are the operating systems that run on them - but virtual memory is a LOT slower than hardware memory, once you start using more memory than you physically have in the system.

I've written several companies (trying to locate what they "advertise the Clawhammer" but whether it's actually what they're selling is another story) - I guess everyone knows that but me! I saw a page mentioning that even some of the Clawhammers were only 512!!!
The Clawhammer did MUCH better on Scott Reams SONAR3 test, like 15-20 % on the lowest latency.
Also, make sure you don't get the mobile clawhammer (DTR) as it doesn't have a heatspreader, making the process of finding a fitting cooler difficult.

It's not yet possible to judge the performance capability of the Athlon 64 in pure 64 bit operation, since the alpha version of "Windows XP 64" we used and the dearth of available programs don't allow a clear evaluation.
AMD delivers its GZIP Packer optimized for 64 bits with the standard package, which is a whole lot speedier compared with 32 bit operation.
But a closer look at this fact reveals a marketing trap: if the code is optimized for the P4, too - as it was in our test - then the Intel CPU turns out to be faster under conventional 32 bit operation.
