Carry the claymore in the rucksack so it's immediately accessible, so after breaking contact it can be quickly armed and emplaced on the back trail (even while it's still in the ruck) to delay pursuers.
Because you only emplace a claymore where you can observe it, if you are operating in dense jungle, you may consider cutting your firing wire in half since you won't use more than 50 feet/5 meters of wire, easing emplacement and recovery and cutting weight.

The Claymore fires shrapnel, in the form of steel balls, out to about 100 meters across a 60° arc in front of the device.

Initially the claymore would not function, the slot that the release bar fits into wasn't large enough and was pressing on the bar, putting pressure on it and preventing it from freely unlatching.
The claymore is very rugged and has withstood over 50 firings so far without any damage or any malfunction.

Operation Claymore was the 1st Lofoten Islands raid off the Norwegian coast just north of the Arctic Circle.
The success of the raid was a fillip to morale in some quarters, but, there were some amongst the Commandos themselves, who were disappointed and disillusioned that the hazardous duties they had volunteered and trained for, had been used for such purposes.

In March 1941, No. 4, together with No. 3 Commando, was selected to take part in Operation Claymore against the Lofoten Islands, (Norwegian Territories within the Arctic Circle occupied by the Nazis).
The operation was delayed twice due to poor weather conditions, but the landings finally took place on 21-22 April.
The operation did not go as smoothly as hoped; despite landing without opposition, the troops were caught by the very searchlight battery that they'd come to destroy whilst still in the sand dunes and found their way hampered wire entanglements.
