Modern History Sourcebook: Sir WilliamThomson (Lord Kelvin): Wave Theory Of Light, 1884
Plane - polarised light is light with the vibrations all in a single plane, perpendicular to the plane through the ray which is technically called the "plane of polarisation." Circularly polarised light consists of undulations of luminiferous ether having a circular motion.
Light is always polarised when it is reflected from a plate of unsilvered glass, or from water, at a certain definite angle of fifty - six degrees for glass, fifty - two degrees for water, the angle being reckoned in each case from a perpendicular to the surface.
Light does go round a corner in these diffraction spectrums; and it is shown going round a corner, since it passes through these bars and is turned round an angle of thirty degrees.

Seeing The Light - Kenosha Pierhead Lighthouse
With work progressing on the new breakwater in 1900, the decision was made to erect a light on the southeastern end of the breakwater to serve as a front range to the beacon on the north pier.
The north pier light was given a coat of red paint in 1917, and the characteristic of the light changed back to red, only this time it was converted to an occulting characteristic of a 2.5 second flash followed by 12.5 seconds of darkness.
The 1906 breakwater light was removed from the breakwater in 1921, and replaced by a 37 foot tall red skeletal steel tower with its lower end enclosed, similar in design to that currently in existence on the Muskegon south breakwater.

Operation Eagle Claw - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Operation Eagle Claw (or Operation Evening Light) was a United States military operation to rescue the 53 hostages from the U.S. embassy in Tehran, Iran on April 24, 1980.
The operation was a failure, and had a severe impact on US President Jimmy Carter's re-election prospects; on a military level, it led to the creation of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and the U.S. Army 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (the Night Stalkers).
The concept of USSOCOM was born and finally established; and placed into operation in the 1988-1989 time period.

The project was recognized as both innovative and successful and pushed forward by executives in both police and probation; this, in turn, led to the establishment of Night Light as a formal partnership between the Boston Police Department and the Office of the Commissioner of Probation for Massachusetts.
Operation Night Light is now a central tactic in Boston’s multi-jurisdictional, highly collaborative strategy to deter and prevent youth gang firearm violence.

Operation Coldfeet, Cadwalader reported, produced intelligence "of very great value." ONR learned that the Soviet station was configured to permit extended periods of silent operation, confirming the importance that the Soviets attached to acoustical work.
While the Skyhook system provided an important asset for all manner of intelligence operations, its utility as a long-range pickup system was somewhat undermined during the 1960s by the development of an aerial refueling capability for helicopters.
