Galvanic battery with replenishable electrodes and/or electrolyte for extended battery operation - Patent 5536592
This invention relates to the construction of a galvanic battery in which the anode and/or cathode are supplied from an elongated strip of tape connected to form an endless loop and arranged in segmented sections to provide discrete periods of battery operation separated by controlled periods of dormancy in battery operation.
The galvanic battery cell of the present invention is constructed to provide operator control over the introduction and replenishment of the supply of electrode material and to provide, when necessary, a supplemental supply of electrolyte to extend the storage life of the battery for an extended period.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention battery operation is initiated by controlling the introduction of the anode to the electrolyte compartment of the battery housing using a strip of inactive material connected to the elongated tape in the form of a leader.

Operational maneuver from the sea is an amphibious operation that seeks to use the sea as an avenue for maneuvering against some operational-level objective.
What distinguishes operational maneuver from the sea is the use of the sea as a means of gaining operational advantage, as an avenue for friendly movement that is simultaneously a barrier to the enemy, and as a means of avoiding disadvantageous engage- ments.
Operational maneuver is as integral to sustained operations ashore as it is to operational maneuver from the sea.

 Safeshore Marine Galvanic Isolators
Galvanic Isolators (zinc savers) prevent destructive galvanic corrosion of anodes, zincs, magnesiums, shafts, propellers and all underwater fittings created by the use of marina shorepower connections.Damage through galvanic currents can extend to engine components and internal fittings.
Fitting our high quality marine galvanic isolator will stop all galvanic current flow through the shore power earth (green) ground wire connecting cable whilst maintaining safety on board ensuring rcd and mcb circuit breaker devices operate as normal under fault conditions.
Galvanic isolation offers protection from destructive galvanic currents on both your own and your neighbour's vessels (if you don't have one installed then your neighbour is probably using your anodes!).Zinc losses, metal fatigue, cathodic deterioration and electrolysis are controlled by this easy fit device.Cathodic protection is achieved with very little financial outlay!

Should these operations succeed, Australia would be useless as an Allied base, and the United States fleet would be confined within a triangle bounded by Alaska, Hawaii, and Panama.
The agency charged with developing the program of Allied military operations and allocating the resources of the two nations was the Combined Chiefs of Staff (CCS), which was composed of the principal military advisers of President Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
Finally, the British suggested that the effect of any extension of the Pacific war on overall strategy should be considered by the CCS before actual operations were begun, a sentence to this effect was inserted, and the document approved.

Operation Galvanic (2): The Battle for Makin, November 1943
The attack on the Gilbert Islands (formerly a British possession) would be a joint Marine and Army operation and initially involved Tarawa and Apamama in the island chain and the island of Nauru, which lay almost 400 miles to the west.
The division began planning its part in Galvanic, the assault on Nauru (codenamed Operation Kourbash), but Spruance changed its objective from Nauru (a relatively well defended objective that would require more troops than there was available troop transports to lift) to the Japanese seaplane base at Makin.
Rehearsals for the operation began in October with the Army units of the Northern Attack Force practising amphibious assaults in Hawaii while the Southern Attack Force (2nd Marine Division) practised in the New Hebrides.

Despite considerable interest in Operation Galvanic’s controversies, its chief significance resides not in the debate over Tarawa’s questionable strategic value or even the tactical lessons learned there but rather the broader institutional impact the Battle of Betio made on the Marine Corps.

Although the casualty list shocked the American public, the operation was nonetheless a success, for the capture of Makin, Tarawa, and four lesser atolls had neutralized the entire Gilberts group and advanced American might across some 700 miles of ocean.
The operations against the Gilberts were the most damaging blows that could be struck against the enemy with the resources then available to Admiral Nimitz.
Ralph Smith, however, was quick to admit that an amphibious operation was a type of combat in which the concern of the Navy for its ships might conflict with the scheme of maneuver ashore.
