	Operation Paperclip - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Operation Paperclip was the codename under which the US intelligence and military services extricated scientists from Germany, during and after the final stages of World War II.
		These scientists and their families were secretly brought to the United States, without State Department review and approval; their service for Hitler's Third Reich, NSDAP and SS memberships as well as the classification of many as war criminals or security threats would have disqualified them from officially obtaining visas.
		An aim of the operation was capturing equipment before the Soviets came in.

		In the end, Operation Alsos concluded that the Allies had surpassed the entire German atomic bomb effort by 1942.
		Compared to the Manhattan Project, one of the largest scientific endeavors of all time, the German project was considerably underfunded and understaffed, and it is questionable whether Germany would have had the resources or concentrated research attention which the Allies used to produce such a weapon.
		Similar (but separate) attempts to remove German technical information and personnel after the war were Operation Paperclip (Overcast) (rocketry) and TICOM (cryptography).

		However, the fragility of the V-2's meant that none were actually intact when Mittlewerk was captured, the Americans found only piles of parts, and no instruction manuals for assembly.
