On the night of June 23, 1940, Operation Collar was an offensive recognisance on the French coast south of Bologne and Le Toquet.
A second and also ineffective attack, Operation Ambassador, was launched on the German occupied island of Guernsey on the night of July 14, 1940, by H Troop of No.3 Commando under John Durford-Slater and No.11 Commando/Independent Company, however the raiders failed to make contact with the German garrison.
While Germany suffered several hundred casualties, the overall operation was widely criticised as poorly conceived, although it did lead to the decision not to attempt to capture a port by way of head-on assault for the launch of the invasion of Europe -- Operation Overlord.

 Home Coffee Roasting Equipment
We roast to a full city or light French roast, and each batch has been evenly roasted with a lovely oil sheen on the surface and heavenly aroma after a decent rest period.
Because it has the longest roast cycle of all the roasting machines we sell, coffee roasted with the Zach and Danis roaster will have the rich, deep notes of a good coffee but may lose some brightness and acidity that can be achieved with a faster roast.
As the roast chamber is glass, this is a simple matter of monitoring the bean color, and aroma and manually turning the machine to cool when the beans are perfect.

Fluid Bed Roasting with MasterRoaster   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-08)
A fluid bed roasting machine is an enclosed metal box or chamber with a vented screen over a restrictive air entrance, a blower, and a combustion chamber beneath or to the side for heat.
Roasted beans are unloaded by opening a slide gate at the front of the roast chamber.
Fluid bed roasting depends on the unique balance among air movement, air temperature, and the rising bean temperature that triggers pyrolysis, thus finishing the roast.

 Home Grain Roasting
So whether you have difficulties accessing roasted malts or you just want to try and add that special touch to your beers, you may find that you really want to have a crack at home roasting some malt.
The barley is dried and then roasted.  The longer you roast it, and the hotter the temperature, well the darker the grain.  These are your basic malts.
For raw roasted barley I like 45 minutes at 190c, followed by 30 minutes at 230c., or until 10% of grains are very dark, and 10 % is light brown.

The roast color of the exterior of the bean and the Agtron Number assigned to the grind are closer to a match (2-5 points) than they are in an air roaster (which can differ by 8 or so).
Notes: This roast had good aromatics but was not very exciting initially, lacking brightness in the nose of the lighter HWG roast and the bittersweet of the Agtron 45 roasts.
But the roast flavors are really nice and like the cup from the HWP at the same degree of roast, the chocolatey-roasty notes are distinctly tangy and aromatic.

Okay, roast prtofile: nobody has THAT much control over it and in general home roasters have a little less: we are either roasting on appliances that have limited controls or we have modified something else to roast coffee.
Air roasters: profile is not so esoteric as drum roasting: put a thermocouplke in your roaster and you will see that bean mass doesnt count for much...its all in the air flow and air temp.
In air roasting my opinion is that you want a slowly rising roast curve with the coffee at 335-350 at 5 or 6 minutes and 415 at 6.5 to 7 minutes.

In addition to the pre-slect roasting curves, the I-Roast also allows complete 3-stage programming in which you have the flexibility to control temperature, and time in all three stages of roast.
This serves both to displace the hotter beans that are floating in the "roast column", so the cooler beans that are floating outside of the "roast column" can enter and have their chance to roast a bit hotter, and to help maintain a consistent chamber temperature.
Controlling the roast in this manner allows for a much more even internal temperature, and also allows the temperature read out to be closer to actual programmed temperatures.
