Operation Searchlight was a planned genocide carried out by the Pakistan Army to curb the Bengali nationalist movement in erstwhile East Pakistan in 1971.
The Operation started on the night of 25th March, 1971, and was considered ended with the fall of the last district town under Mukti Bahini control in May, 1971.
General Farman Ali took command of the operation in Dhaka, while the rest of the province was commanded by General Khadim.
