Operational Distinguishing Device - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Operational Distinguishing Device is a decoration of the United States Coast Guard which is awarded to certain units as an attachment to a unit award (such as the Coast Guard Unit Commendation and Meritorious Unit Commendation).
To qualify for the Operational Distinguishing Device, a Coast Guard unit must have received a unit award under field conditions where such conditions warranted additional recognition beyond that which would normally be required for the standard unit award.
The Operation Distinguishing Device is determined by local commanders, giving a wide discretion as to what actions may qualify.

 Computer
What all input devices have in common is that they encode (convert) information of some type into data which can further be processed by the digital computer system.
Output devices on the other hand, decode the data into information which can be understood by the computer user.
The operating system also provides a layer of abstraction over the hardware, and gives access by providing services to other programs, such as code ("drivers") which allow programmers to write programs for a machine without needing to know the intimate details of all attached electronic devices.

Interface requirements specify characteristics of the device which are critical to compatibility with external systems; specifically, those characteristics which are mandated by external systems and outside the control of the developers.
However, all devices require clinical evaluation and should be tested in the actual or simulated use environment as a part of validation.
