The requirement for all combat-ready RAF strike/attack/reconnaissance fast jet aircrew to be current in operational low flying came into effect on 1 May 1993 for aircrew of No. 1 Group RAF Strike Command and on 1 November 1993 for aircrew of No. 2 Group.
Stocks of the same 155 mm ammunition were also purchased for use with the M109 gun and there is no differentiation in the current holdings of 155 mm ammunition between that originally procured for the FH70 and M109 guns.
Ammunition for the AS90 howitzer will not be procured under the terms of this MOU, but under our normal procedures by competitive tender.

The Australian Army's current indirect fire weapons systems capability is founded on delivery systems, operational procedures, ammunition and technologies from the 1960s.
This project enhances the Australian Army's indirect fire support capability with the replacement and enhancement of the Australian Defence Force's 105 mm Hamel Howitzer and 155 mm M198 Howitzer as these systems reach the projected end of service in 2010.
The changing nature of warfare to meet threats in urban environments, complex and littoral terrain has necessitated the requirement for the generation of new lethal and non-lethal effects beyond those currently available.

 French Army
The twin-engined SA 330 Puma was developed initially to meet a French Army requirement for a medium-sized helicoptere de manoeuvre, capable of operating by day and night in all weathers and climates.The payload exceeded that of the specification, the aircraft being capable of carrying 18 troops with full individual armament plus two crew.
The Leclerc was first operational with the French Army in 1992 and with UAE in 1995.
Giat Industries has built and delivered to a dozen armies almost 2,300 AMX 30 main battle tanks, as well as many derivative versions (155 GCT self-propelled howitzers, anti-aircraft missile or gun systems, armoured recovery vehicles, etc.).
