Ophioglossophyta - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
However, it is now recognized that this group is wholly distinct from the ferns and apparently from the other extant groups of plants.
Thus they may be given a separate division, called the Ophioglossophyta.

Divisions Simple nonvascular plants Green algae Plant Classification Complex nonvascular plants Bryophyta - mosses Plants find their origins among a Hepatophyta - liverworts group called the green algae, which Anthocerophyta - hornworts are paraphyletic to the remaining Vascular plants forms, and are variously included Seedless here or among the Protista.
Groups at this level of organization include: * Division Lycophyta (club mosses) * Division Sphenophyta (horsetails) * Division Psilophyta (whisk ferns) * Division Ophioglossophyta (adders-tongues and grape-ferns) * Division Pterophyta (ferns) The vascular plants also include as a subgroup the spermatophytes, or seed plants, which diversified towards the end of the Palaeozoic.
In these forms it is the gametophyte that is completely reduced, and the young sporophyte begins life inside an enclosure called a seed, which develops on its parent.

Fern - The real meaning from Timesharetalk wikipedia
Ferns have traditionally been grouped in the Class Filices, but modern classifications assign them their own division in the plant kingdom, called Pteridophyta.
Traditionally, three discrete groups of plants have been considered ferns: the adders-tongues, moonworts, and grape-ferns (Ophioglossophyta), the Marattiaceae, and the leptosporangiate ferns.
The Marattiaceae are a primitive group of tropical ferns with a large, fleshy rhizome, and are now thought to be a sibling taxon to the main group of ferns, the leptosporangiate ferns.
